Pre-freeze photo2025-01-20 23:12:20This photo is from yesterday, just wanted it to compare to the next photo, which will be from today
Pre-freeze update2025-01-17 18:14:41Some wind damage but no other damage yet this winter.
Update2024-11-05 18:31:48Still growing, no sign of dormancy yet.
Update2024-09-23 07:14:28Still actively growing.
Update2024-09-04 07:01:44Reaching eye level, still growing vigorously.
Update2024-08-26 05:10:53Has grown continuously since spring and is already almost 5 ft tall again, this time with multiple trunks.
Update2024-07-17 20:43:41New growth has been vigorous.
Update2024-06-27 07:12:34Main trunk is mostly abandoned, other than one small branch forming just above ground level. Many new shoots from the roots.
Update2024-03-04 18:42:00Still clinging to its last leaf, and the main stems do look mostly alive, albeit with patchy dead zones.
Update2024-02-02 01:32:49Looking increasingly like most or all of the tree will die back. There are still a few green bits, but many sections of the trunk are starting to go brown.
Freeze update 2024-01-17 03:48:15Not looking so great despite the protection of a polycarbonate cube and a string of lights. But still a lot better than most of the rest of the trees!
Readying frost protection2024-01-08 00:53:48In light of the potential for extreme cold in about a week, I made a polycarbonate box for this tree using the spare panels from the greenhouse construction. I was going to leave the tree unprotected, but the forecast shows a potential for low teens or even single digit (°F) temperatures, so I'm not taking any chances.
Update2023-12-10 17:55:19Still looking good, you can see a few slightly frost damaged leaves at the end of a few branches, but generally no damage to any hardened leaves yet.
Update2023-11-29 06:24:46No sign of even the slightest damage from multiple nights around 30°F and one night at 28°F.
photo update2023-11-18 21:45:12Seems happy, no signs of delayed damage from the earlier frosts
Frost report 2023-10-28 14:35:45No sign of damage even on the not-yet-hardened leaves after 6 hours below freezing with low of -1.0°C (30°F).
Report2023-10-26 17:25:16Seems to have gone fully dormant ahead of anticipated first frost.
This tree does not have any grafts on it.
