1st night below freezing 2025 | 2025-01-19 16:29:52 | This tree was planted spring of 2024 and performed well all of 2024. The top leaves experienced some frost damage during the first frost we had in November. Since then, with our very mild conditions in Nov - Dec, additional leaf growth occurred. In late Nov, added a tomato cage with fabric to protect the base of the tree, to tree extends about 2 ft above the tomato cage, the ground is mulched with bark chip. Jan. 11th add 6+ inches of bark chip around the perimeter of the tree up to the tomato cage. Jan 17-18 we had our first night below freezing (picture provided), I expect the top set of leaves to die.

Planted in ground. | 2024-03-17 16:29:39 | Planted on 3/16/2024 in ground with a tomato cage cloche for hardening off. Site location is near cement driveway with South and West sun exposure and slight slope. Native soil is very sandy. Planting hole amended with compost. Mulched with partially composted fir needles/wood chip. Tree was kept in unheated greenhouse prior to planting out. New growth just starting to bud out.
