Reason for update: Pre-winter report
Update text:
This photo was actually taken after our first frost, of 27°, which it tolerated with minimal damage. Each subsequent frost did cause greater damage, compounding the effects. I think it is not warming up as much as the one in the tunnel, and not able to rebound as sufficiently. This one also did not grow as much during the growing season as the one in the tunnel (no real surprise there), but that is likely due to water availability as much as heat. It is looking quite peaked now- but not fully winterkilled. The majority of leaves are blackened as least somewhat, but the trunk remains unscathed. I suspect it will recover, though if we keep having these significant cold snaps, it may not make it through the winter at all.
